What do you honestly think about the education system
in Malta?
I am no expert in the educational sector, however it has always been one of my favourite topics to discuss.
One of the many reasons I believe it is significant is because I see a direct co-relation with the standards of living and quality. We will never advance without a strong educational base, a pedament for the next generations. For example, we can never strive for a 4 day working week here in Malta as there is a lack of education within workforce and a lack of productivity. (especially people who work with the government) We also have a close minded mentality which I believe there can be some educational input to change this for the better.
I will use this account to discuss some themes regarding the educational system.
The first discussion I want some insights on is why do we have a restrictive resits. My friends who study abroad get results within two days (max 1 week), they also have resit examinations within a month and if they fail the resit again, they can take it in the next semester, hence without repeating a year.
This have many advatanges:
– less exam anxiety for students
– no need to repeat a year for the one exam you failed
– immediate feedback which gives you motivation
and so on…
This closest situation to this ideal system is when I did my matsec exams for my Alevels and intermediate, where I was able to sit the exams in my first year twice, in May and in September. Students can also see the level of the paper they will sit. I excelled with this system as I had less anxiety.
My question is why can’t we apply this for primary, secondary school and university?
